One day over lunch at the Random House cafeteria, my friend and I cooked up an idea for a book. Later we both sheepishly admitted that we were serious about writing it–so we did. Somehow, that one idea (Emily Ever After) became eight books and many years of fun.
Random House is not in the habit of publishing editorial assistants who work for them so we chose pen names. She decided on Anne Dayton, and I went with May Vanderbilt. I’ve enjoyed being May ever since and writing with Anne has been a complete privilege.
